A day here

Someone cuts a coconut down for you before you have put your bag down

Nipun runs it, his mother cooks, his father Anura drives, his brother Rohan is the fourth of them.

King coconut, blue lotus, a cold towel

The coconut comes off the tree at the front. If you land at two in the morning, it still happens.

They tried to give us a coconut every minute they saw us))

Breakfast at the time you asked for the night before

You say a time the night before. One guest with an early boat was given breakfast at three in the morning.

The family even went as far as to prepare breakfast for us at 3AM (!) because we had an early start on one of our days.

Mid-morning

The father's tuk-tuk, going wherever you're going

Harbour, pier, bus stop. Anura drove one guest to the pharmacy and refused to be paid. Arranging boats and safaris is the family's other business, not a commission.

The father drove us to the pharmacy for free in his tuk-tuk, and the mother offered us cookies and juice and even invited us into her home.

The lane goes quiet

We are inland from the beach strip. The ground floor hears the road, ask for upstairs if you sleep lightly.

The unit is extremely clean and modern, even by Scandinavian standards.

The thing people write about

Twenty-nine of our 114 Booking reviews mention breakfast

Cooked by Nipun's mother in the family kitchen across the road, and carried over.

  • Coconut roti, made that morning
  • Egg hoppers
  • Lentil curry, potato curry, chicken curry
  • Coconut sambol
  • Papaya, pineapple, king coconut
  • Bananas from their own garden
  • Pancakes, if there are children
  • Sri Lankan sweets at New Year

One honest caveat, from a Polish guest: the coffee is instant. The tea is not.

Breakfasts were huge, fresh and full of variety, Mum should open a restaurant.

Jeremy Netherlands Booking.com

We had chicken curry, egg hoppers, lentil curry, coconut sambal, potato curry and everything was delicious.

Especially the fresh coconut roti every morning, will be difficult for those to be beaten.

How long people actually stay

They book three nights and stay seven

The one claim on this page we did not have to write ourselves.

It was originally meant to be just 4 nights but we fell in love with the place and didn't want to leave. Our stay here was easily the highlight of our trip.

Rory United Kingdom Booking.com

Originally booked 3 nights at Nord but ended up staying 7.

We would've stayed longer, but the rooms were full.

How booking works

No booking engine, no card form. You message, he answers, you pay cash on arrival.

  1. 1

    Send your dates

Dates, how many of you, and whether you want the upstairs room.

  2. 2

    Nipun replies with a price

Usually within the hour, 7am,10pm Sri Lanka time. Overnight messages are answered at breakfast.

  3. 3

    Pay cash on arrival

Cash or card, in rupees. ATMs are a few minutes away if you want cash.

Rates move with the season, and December and January are the expensive weeks. Ask and you will get a straight number, not a number based on where you are from.

There are three rooms. In December and January they are usually taken two or three months ahead.
